2008 Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil

November 22, 2008 Candlelight Vigil

Since 2005 the Sutter Gender Identity Support Group has hosted an Annual Candlelight Vigil in observance of the International Transgender Day of Remembrance on the third Saturday of each November. This event features guest speakers and is open to the Sacramento community.

The tragic death in September, 2008 of transwoman Ruby Molina has shaken the Sacramento community. This event paid special respect to her memory among our many brothers and sisters who have fallen to ignorance and intolerance.

Please contact the Sacramento Police Department if you have any information that may help the investigation into Ruby's death.

Nearly 100 people attended the candlelight vigil held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at A Church For All, 721 North B Street, Sacramento, CA.

Among our speakers were:

Tara Nicole Golden, Writer;

Rev. Dr. Rosario Vargas, Minister, Metropolitan Community Church;

Rev. Doretha Flournoy, Pastor, A Church For All; and,

Ben Hudson co-founder of Sacramento Transgender Coalition.
